VỀ DỰ ÁN

With “Mưa Show 2007” (The Rain Show 2007), director Viet Tu collaborated with artist Phuong Thanh to develop a live concert that deeply reflected her distinctive persona. The music, stage design, and performance style converged to portray a powerful and fierce Phuong Thanh, yet one profoundly shaped by lived experiences and deep emotions. The program took place on the evening of September 29, 2007, at the Phan Dinh Phung Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.

Rain served as the overarching conceptual material throughout The Rain Show 2007. Dream Studio constructed a highly energetic spatial environment utilizing raw, exposed truss structures backed by hundreds of speaker cones, engineering an installation art effect within a live performance stage architecture. Phuong Thanh’s image was immersed in the relentless flow of rock, with lighting, sound, and stage effects continuously driving the atmosphere to its climax. Serendipitously, heavy rain outside the venue amplified the show’s intensity, forging a unique resonance between the experiential space and the audience's emotions.

Musically, the program was designed as a journey through Phuong Thanh’s diverse emotional states. Signature rock tracks such as Mưa, Trái tim sắt, Mình đã xa nhau, and Gọi bình yên quay về anchored the climactic segments, while the mid-section transitioned into ballads before surging back into pure rock energy. Notably, the hit Khi giấc mơ về was boldly rearranged with a rock spirit, demonstrating a deliberate creative intent to reinvent familiar masterpieces rather than merely replicating past hits.

Concurrently, Dream Studio structurally designed a show virtually devoid of an MC and spoken transitions. This empowered Phuong Thanh to serve as the principal storyteller of her own concert, using music as her primary narrative vehicle. The guest appearance of Siu Black and a collaborative performance with composer Duc Tri provided compelling focal points within the night's musical journey.

For Dream Studio, “Mưa Show 2007” (The Rain Show 2007) stands as a quintessential project illustrating a personality-driven approach to live concert production. Rather than imposing a predetermined theatrical format upon the artist, the program strategically leveraged Phuong Thanh’s raw performance energy, vocal prowess, and personal narrative to engineer a high-paced, visceral, and emotionally resonant musical experience.
