ABOUT

Entering its 10th season, Davines Hair Show 2015 posed a different question from previous years: not ‘what to showcase’, but ‘through what language’. Instead of placing hairstyling techniques at the center, the program chose to tell the story of the hairdressers themselves, the artists who quietly beautify life every day. From that perspective, “Tôi gìn giữ vẻ đẹp (I Preserve Beauty)” is not just a theme, but a view of the profession, where beauty is preserved not through showing off, but through the silent, persistent, and dedicated efforts of those standing behind the spotlights.

With that mindset, Dream Studio introduced experimental pantomime as the narrative spine throughout the entire program. Pantomime, in its essence, is the art of silence, of conveying unspoken emotions – mirrored the portrait of the hairdresser being honored. For the first time at the Davines Hair Show, the art of pantomime was elevated to lead the show’s narrative, featuring the appearance of artist Hoang Tung. Without using spoken dialogue, the narrator connected the three performance acts using body language, guiding the audience through slices of the past, present, and future.

Alongside the narrative structure, Dream Studio continued to break the familiar approach of hair shows by blurring the boundary between the stage and the audience. The performance space was designed in a minimalist language, where lighting, music, and performances merged into a unified experiential environment. The audience no longer merely observed a runway but became part of the journey to discover beauty, unfolding chapter by chapter.

The three collections were arranged like three acts of a complete theatrical play. “Forgotten Beauty” by Hoang Minh Tam took viewers back to the classical beauty of the 1960s-1980s, featuring strong personalities hidden behind elegant appearance. “Legend” by Don Hau followed with 17 hair-updo masterpieces made entirely of real hair, affirming the technical proficiency and creativity of the styling artist. Concluding the program was “Reverie” by the Allilon Academy London, where hair was treated as a painting medium, conveying messages about nature and the preservation of sustainable values through color and styling art.

For Dream Studio, the Davines Hair Show 2015 was not just a hair fashion show but an experiment in how a stage can tell humanistic stories using a minimalist language. Through the project, Dream Studio continued to pursue the belief that performance art not only honors the beauty created but also honors the people who quietly preserve that beauty every day. Along with series such as Dep Fashion Show, Con Duong Am Nhac (The Musical Path), Khong Gian Am Nhac (Music Space), and later the WeChoice Awards, these were the series where Dream Studio applied the most avant-garde artistic trends, setting industry standards in Vietnam's nascent entertainment industry at that time.
