For Dream Studio, Davines Hair Show & Contest 2012 was not approached as a mere hair show. With the theme “Living Jewel”, the project was developed as a multidisciplinary art program, where theater, music, fashion, and performance art were woven together to tell a unified story.
Inspired by Greek mythology, weaving in the story of Prometheus—the god who brought fire, a divine gift, to humanity—and Zeus’s vengeful plot to give Pandora the box containing the seeds of misfortune and vice, the Davines Hair Show & Contest 2012 was divided into seven acts. Each act served as a slice of the journey of life, from the moment of human creation, the arrival of fire, and the world's upheavals, to the final seed of hope preserved as a symbol of human spirit and creativity.
The project’s uniqueness lay in Dream Studio’s choice of a minimalist and highly contemporary language to elevate a hair styling competition beyond its conventional framework. Instead of focusing solely on styling techniques, the hairstyles were placed within a comprehensive performance structure, where form, color, light, and movement all contributed to the meaning of each act.
Music was also developed as an independent layer of storytelling. From classical music and the opera vocals of Ha Pham to performances by the Rhapsody Philharmonic, DJ Slim V, and DJ Bnuts, the sound elements were combined with modern stage language to create an intersection between the classical beauty of the Hanoi Opera House and the contemporary spirit of a hair fashion show.
Throughout the program, collections from leading Vietnamese stylists such as Minh Tam, Tran Hung, Duc Thinh, and Buu An were presented alongside the competition entries of 10 contestants. The performances were connected into a unified flow, transporting the audience through time to the epic world of Greek mythology to tell a story imbued with humanism—a story about the power of the seed of hope. The participation of international models and fashion designs by Kelly Bùi further expanded the program’s visual language.
For Dream Studio, Davines Hair Show & Contest 2012 was an experimental series aimed at introducing the concept of multidisciplinary art into commercial events. The project demonstrated that a hair fashion show could indeed be crafted as a profound theatrical experience, where art is used to honor the creative potential of every profession.
