WECHOICE AWARDS 2020 | “VIETNAM’S MIRACLES”

Taking place during an extraordinary year in which Vietnam and the world faced a global pandemic, natural disasters, and profound social challenges, WeChoice Awards 2020 with the theme “Vietnam Miracle” was developed by Dream Studio as a stage dedicated to honoring ordinary people who created extraordinary value for the community.

Unlike previous editions, which often emphasized grand scale and spectacular visual presentation, WeChoice Awards 2020 was built around a bold and challenging creative choice: minimalism. At a time when society needed empathy, solidarity, and human connection more than visual extravagance, the stage was conceived as an open environment where the spotlight remained entirely on inspirational stories and the individuals being honored.

At the heart of the stage stood a large-scale, multi-sided cylindrical LED structure, combined with a fully overhead lighting system and four auxiliary LED screens positioned around the venue. Rather than relying on a traditional physical stage platform, the entire space was designed as a unified experiential surface, blurring the boundaries between performers, guests, and inspirational figures. It became the first truly “minimalist” award-show stage in Vietnam’s event industry, requiring an exceptionally sophisticated approach to visual control, lighting design, stage movement, and overall direction. 

Beyond the award ceremony itself, the program was developed as an emotional journey through some of the most remarkable humanitarian stories of 2020. Artistic performances were inspired by real-life narratives of frontline healthcare workers, community relief efforts, individuals overcoming adversity, and people whose actions created positive social impact. In particular, a contemporary dance performance featuring an artist with disabilities stood out as a deeply emotional highlight, beautifully embodying  the resilience, friendship, determination, and aspirations of the inspirational figures honored throughout the year.

For Dream Studio, WeChoice Awards 2020 was far more than an awards ceremony. It was an exploration of how a minimalist approach, without becoming simplistic, could be used to tell powerful stories about society and humanity. Through this project, Dream Studio continued to pursue the belief that technology, stagecraft, and performing arts achieve their greatest value only when they serve to illuminate human stories and human achievements - the very people who created what WeChoice called “Vietnam Miracle.”
